Pantoum Poetry Challenge Instructions

Pantoums are poems based on stanzas (this means sections) of four lines. These four lines each have a rhyme scheme where their first and third lines rhyme and their second and fourth lines rhyme.

What makes pantoums tricky is that each line in a pantoum repeats twice. The second and fourth line of each stanza gets repeated as the first and third lines of the following stanza. Except of course for the first and third lines of the very first stanza which are repeated as the second and fourth lines of the very last stanza.

This is shown in the Pantoum Example to the left. The coloured numbers to the left of the lines show how each line repeats. Just find the matching coloured number to see where that line repeats later in the poem.

I have placed a template down below which you can copy into your notebook to make it easier to remember which line goes where.

I suggest that as soon as you write one line you also place it right away in the second place that line occurs. This makes it easier to keep track of where you are.
